Welcome to Mrs. Manickas's Class Page

I just can't believe that it is November already.  The students are working very hard and learning so much.  Please look ahead to see what we will be doing this month.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  You can send a note in your child's important paper folder or call the school and leave a message (336-5230)  You may email me at: manickab@seekonk.k12.ma.us.

        CLASS NEWS
Math:   The students have finished the graphing unit and we have started the next addition, subtraction, and place value unit.  It is called Collections and Travel Stories.  I sent a unit newsletter home with the students last week that highlights what we will be doing in this unit.  Some of the students still do not know the addition and subtraction facts.  Please work with your child on these skills.  Also, many need practice with money and time.  (thank you!!)

Social Studies:  We are still working on the regions of Massachusetts.  The students are writing about each region.  This should be completed by week's end.  Next, we will study the Wampanoag Native Americans and the Pilgrims, just in time for our field trip to Plimoth Plantation. (Nov. 19)

Science:   I am integrating science and reading groups for the next few weeks.  The students are learning about the life cycles of several animals and creating graphic sources.  They are also reading books about life cycles and completing assignments that support their learning.

Reading:     This week we begin reading a short story called Molly's Pilgrim.  This will take us up to Thanksgiving break.  The students will have a small at home project that will be due just before the break.  More information will follow this week.

Writing:     As stated earlier, the students are writing paragraphs about the regions of Massachusetts.  This will take a bit longer, but then they will begin another writing assignment.
