Welcome to Mrs. Ahern's Class Web Page

You probably have lots of questions about what to expect this year as your child navigates the exciting world of first grade.  This web page includes answers to many of the questions parents ask me every year.  Please explore a bit, and please revisit the page from time to time.  I update it at least once every month.  I hope you find the information helpful.

To learn more about what's happening this month, be sure to read this month's newsletter by clicking the link to the left.  And don't forget to check and empty your child's "Take Home Folder" on a regular basis.  Important notices are sent home throughout the week.  If you have any questions or concerns in the coming weeks or at any time during the year, please do not hesitate to contact me.  You can send in a note with your child, call the school and leave a message for me (508-336-5230), or email me using the following address:  aherns@seekonkschools.org

Thanks for visiting my web page!

Please Sign Up for Class Dojo

I use Class Dojo, a classroom management and messaging service for teachers.  I hope you will consider joining.  Information on how to sign up and use Class Dojo will be provided at Open House and sent home with students during the first week of school.

GoNoodle at Home

GoNoodle is a fun, free website we use to take brain breaks in school.  It includes both high energy dance sessions and guided relaxation activities.  GoNoodle is also great for families to use at home.  Please let me know if you have any questions about GoNoodle.

Book Club Orders

I will be ordering books from the Scholastic Reading Clubs this year.  A copy of the monthly flyer(s) will usually be sent home each month during the first week of the month.  Click on the "Scholastic Book Clubs" link on the left side of this page for more information about how to order and to learn when the next order is due.

Special Classes

Our class has special classes every week.  The schedule will vary during the year.  Please click the "Special Classes" link on the left side of this page to learn more about our special classes and to access the schedule.

Meet Mrs. Ahern

I'd like to introduce myself to you.  I'm Mrs. Sharon Ahern, and I'm excited to welcome your child to my class.  I have been teaching first grade at Aitken School since 2000.  Prior to teaching first grade, I was a librarian (including several years as the Children's Librarian at the Seekonk Public Library).  I am a married mother of two adult children, and I live in Seekonk.  My undergraduate degree is from Providence College, and I have graduate degrees from both Rhode Island College and Bridgewater State University.  When I'm not at school, you can find me at the library (I'm an avid reader), hanging out in book stores (I can't resist buying children's books), or riding on local bike paths (a great way to unwind).
